power? we don't need no stinkin' power
well, got power back at around 4AM after losing it in the aftermath of Ike blending with another low pressure front all right beside that damned high pressure shit from the south (damn, you, South!) power went down around 1:40PM on Sunday. So really, not too bad for Ohio having the equivalent of a tropical storm (almost, anyway - sustained winds at 30-40MPH, gusts upwards to 75MPH) No rain, thank god, because well, no sump pump - don't need to toss a shitload of food as well as pump out the basement again. And we didn't lose water or have a boil advisory. Issues pointed to my employer's total lack of disaster recovery plans - absolutely pathetic response from the company on a whole - certain individuals did a great job, but ugh... leadership needs to get a clue. 2 giant trees in the front yard remained mostly intact - only lost a few limbs, and did no structural damage to the house - pretty much all the neighbors lost shingles, siding, or shutters - we got off lucky in that regard. Anyway... back to the clean-up. Assuming cable is stable, which it appears to be, I should be somewhat back on-line-ish once more. Arrrg! | | Friday, July 18th, 2008 | | 11:08 pm |

stuffs
work has been sucking away my soul... also my health. Had the flu recently - it was a steaming pile if coughing and fever, or something like that. In fact, I'm going to be doing more work tonight, in preparation for tomorrow, which will be in preparation for the next day. After that, thankfully, nothing major going on until the 2nd. SUCKING MY SOUL! Talking to a few people at work about starting some jam sessions, mostly as stress relief, but also because I think we'd be good. I like Puzzle Pirates. It is fun. Play it, join my crew, or I'll kill you and take all your stuff, because like, that's what pirates do. For those who missed the semi-obvious, we're expecting boy #4 sometime around July. Yes, he will be THE LAST KID WE HAVE. Because like, yeah... 4 kids. wtf? We have two pies right now. Guess what I'm going to have for a snack... oh yeah... probably popcorn.... wait... I wore this shirt today... it was too small... as if my arms got longer. Is that even possible? I have decided to kill myself by playing La Villa Strangiato on bass until I explode. I almost exploded 3 nights ago. To quote: [22:17] MFS> I can't believe you wouldn't make the list. [22:17] MFS> slacker [22:17] MFS> :P [22:17] FernGully> I'm the worst [22:17] FernGully> BUT SO ARE YOUR LJ ENTRIES [22:19] MFS> my LJ entries are made of pie. [22:20] MFS> fine fine... real update coming [22:22] FernGully> I will hold you to this [22:22] FernGully> my room is insanely cold. [22:26] MFS> I am writing the update now. so yeah... Fern should totally make a list of all the Word of the Day posts. My wife and I like to log in on Ryan and Matt's webkinz accounts and battle each other on some of the different games... mostly on Goober's Lab... yeah... we're dorks. Alex is cute. Soon, the cat in our garage will be allowed to escape as the weather is becoming warmer again. This is a good thing because, well, cat poop is stinky, even with a clean litter box. Pheweee... I have 2G of RAM sitting next to me. I really feel like it should be in a computer doing something useful, like making pies. i nEed mOer caPhfEEne! | | 7:32 pm |

hot
So, this weekend was a Cub Scout campout thingy... We had a crapload of last-minute cancellations, so I took Matt with Ryan and I... got there at 5PM - it wasn't too bad out, really... it was warm, but not very humid. Got signed in, ate dinner, did a big-ass scavenger hunt, then a big-ass bonfire (it was HUGE... started out at least 12 feet tall of ginormous teepee fire). Sleeping was crap... very humid as the dew point approached - we forgot to bring a fan... we slept in a giant fort, not tents, so we had beds and open windows... but it was stuffy. Revelrie in the morning wasn't really... so we missed half the flag raising ceremony thing. Whoops. The camp staff was actually kick-ass and very entertaining - very skilled and very good at working with little kids. You never know what you're going to get with that kind of scene, but they were excellent. Ryan did very well at shooting BB rifles and archery - he hit the archery target more often than I did (I was using a longbow... first time I'd done any archery since... oh... 1991?). Ryan hit the bullseye at least three times - one stuck, the others bounced off, and he hit the target in general far more often than I did (I kept shooting high). Then we went creeking, and one of the staff who took us there was chatting with me, and we caught a salamander, and I mentioned that when I was in scouts one of our assistants was a biology professor who studied salamanders at UD... turns out his daughter who was friends with my sister was his art teacher his last year of high school... I know their whole family, having gone to school with Michelle 1st grade through college, and did Boy Scouts with Stephen (never took a class from their dad, though... couldn't fit it into my schedule or I would have). So yeah... small world. So anyway, it by the time we got done with that, it was way the hell too hot and neither Matt nor Ryan wanted to go swimming so we headed home - swimming was the last thing to do anyway, so it was all good. THEN WE GOT HOME AND DECIDED THAT IT WAS A REALLY CLEVER IDEA TO HAVE STEAK, COOKED ON THE GRILL. Yeah, let's take an awful hot day and STAND IN FRONT OF A TEN BILLION DEGREE FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 WOOOO But it was tasty none the less. p.s. - I need to trim my fingernails... very clacky on the guitar strings 'n such. yar | | Thursday, August 2nd, 2007 | | 1:13 am |

vacation and back
so like, we went to the Poconos 'n stuff. There were trees and rocks and people with very New Jersey accents all over the place. There were also critters. And my wife's entire family. INVASION! We brought back some rocks, because like, all I can find are limestone... gets lame after a while. Damned glaciers. So anyway, yeah, we like did stuff and went to Philadelphia, the city of many tourists, and went to the Philly Hard Rock Cafe, which I think had to have been the LAMEST HRC I've ever been to. However, the t-shirt of a guitar shaped like the Liberty Bell was fairly badass. Yeah, when the t-shirt is better than the memorabilia, that's not a good sign. I missed on the cool hiking trip because I decided that getting sick for the last two days would be a clever idea. I watched the entire Firefly boxed set while left behind, though, so yeah. Take that. We got back just after midnight on Sunday (Saturday night). Then I went to bed, got up, mowed, cleaned the shower (while I took a shower), then went to work at 7PM because we were launching a huge-ass project. Got home at 5AM Monday morning... yeah, that was funnnnn. Crawled into work just after noon. I'm trying to make sure I am good and sleepy because like, more work tomorrow. We've postponed doing anything for my wife's birthday (which was today) until Thursday. Reasons: tired, restaurant I want to take her to is closed on Mondays, tired, and Ryan had his piano lesson tonight at 7, also cutting into our ability to really do anything. Also, we're both tired. So um, I was going to ramble about something else here, but I don't know what the hell it was. Also, I will be collaborating with a guitarist at work on the "Perfect" song/lyrics I posted elsewhere. THIS SONG SHALL RULE THE UNIVERSE! p.s. - I like pie. |
